Heidi's Workshop

Hello felt lovers, welcome to Heidi's workshop!

Heidi Roth is The Felt Store's in house designer and is responsible for coming up with creative new ways of using our felt. We thought it would be a nice to take you behind the scenes and show you what her latest projects are.

Household Felt Sleeves- great for your kitchen cups and mugs

Heidi used a F-7 industrial felt to wrap around a glass that is held in place by a wooden button and soft cotton cord. Since felt is a natural insulator it is an effective, not to mention stylish way of keeping your drinks hot in the winter and cool in the summer.

Adjustable Wine Sleeve

For this project, Heidi combined our 1/2" thick F-7 felt, with our 3mm apple green earth tone felt to create a simple yet elegant wine holder. The layers of felt are held together using industrial adhesive and the sleeve is held in place with a wooden button and cotton cord. The cord can easily be adjusted to fit different sizes of wine bottles.

Dotted Candle Shade

Since wool (the main fibre in this felt) is naturally fire retardant, Heidi has been experimenting with different types of candle shades. This particular design is cut into crescent shape with a variety of punched out circles, and held together by a simple wooden button. Heidi created a slit to hold the button in place, which can be easily adjusted according to the size of the candle. The 1/4" thick F-7 felt used for the design is able to maintain the shape of the structure, while standing firm on straight surfaces. The punched out holes create a nice glow when the candle is lit.

We hope this post has inspired you to keep on experimenting with felt. Let us know what you think of these projects and stay tuned for further updates on Heidi's workshop.
