A Merry Little Felt-Mas Tablescape

Hello Felters!

Hope your holiday prep is going smoothly. This is the first year for myself that I decided to do a TON of DIYs and I feel like I’m running out of time...FAST! Anyone else with me?

This year I wanted to share a felt holiday tablescape for anyone who may have extra free time on their hands, or who are in need of a little inspiration to get the ball rolling before the big family dinner.

First off, I wanted to stress to everyone that this is not a last-minute project unless you are a super sewer! For myself I am slowly getting into embroidery, and while doing this little project, I was still experimenting the quickest way to get the stitching done. So, bear with me…I’m no expert…yet.

This felt tablescape is a minimalist design of red, white, and green colors.

First, I created a simple stitching design (download pattern here) that I wanted to feature on the felt table runner and coasters. I printed out the design to scale and stenciled it onto the felt. This way I knew where my stitching would be and ensuring an even stitch.

I used Dark Parrot Green embroidery floss for the pattern. The coasters used is our Designer Felt Coasters in white.

Once the pattern was completed on the coasters and table runner, I started to measure out where I wanted the red ribbon to be stitched onto the felt.

With some leftover 1.2mm Wool Craft Felt, that I used for the runner, I cut out four strips to use as napkin rings. The sizing will depend on which type of napkin you will be using, if any. Since I wanted to go all out, I used white fabric napkins.

I stitched the red ribbon centered within the napkin ring. This way it looked like an entire set that’s meant to be together.

Time to set the table! I placed the napkins on-top of the plates with the empty glasses on the coasters. For the center piece I placed a single green candle in the center of the table. I then grabbed a poinsettia garland (which I have plenty of), and wrapped it around the candle.

Can’t go wrong with a touch of sparkles! I just had to add these 2 snowflake ornaments for the finishing touch. And VOILA! A merry little felt-mas tablescape.

100% Wool Dryer Balls

The benefits of using wool dryer balls (and uses that will surprise you)

Are you a fan of fabric softeners and dryer sheets? If so, we cannot recommend our 100% Wool Dryer Balls enough! Our wool dryer balls work the same as your fabric softeners and dryer sheets, but without all the chemicals that may leave your skin irritated.

http://www.thefeltstore.com/default.aspx?CN=726AD706C25A

What are Dryer Balls?

Our Wool Dryer Balls are handcrafted from merino wool. The wool is felted to a finely formed ball dense enough to give it some weight to tumble around. While in the dryer, the dryer balls bounce around to create air circulation between your laundries and help maintain the humidity level by absorbing excess moisture as your load dries. This results in softer clothes that dry fast with less wrinkles and static, and bedding that stays nice fluffy. In fact, dryer balls eliminate the need for dryer sheets and fabric softeners altogether. Colored with beautiful vegetable-based dyes, our dryer balls are eco-friendly and safe to use. Simply toss 3 or more balls into your dryer along with your laundry.  We recommend using 3 dryer balls for normal sized loads and about 6 for bulky items.

What are the Benefits?

1. Saves Money
One of the biggest benefits of our 100% Wool Dryer Balls is they reduce drying time by 20-30%, lowering the energy required to dry clothes. 100% Wool Dryer Balls absorb the moisture from washing, allowing you to get through your laundry faster. Plus, you’ll save money on your electricity bills!

2. Fluffs Up Laundry
100% Wool Dryer Balls help your dryer run more efficiently - fluffs up laundry, prevents clothes from clumping, increases air circulation and absorbs odor from clothing. When using dryer sheets, you are actually coating your clothing with an invisible film which not only damages your dryer but also prevents your clothes from naturally absorbing water (towel).

3. Baby Safe
Creating a baby-friendly environment starts with gentle, toxin-free clothing. With our organic 100% Wool Dryer Balls, your little one can snuggle up to naturally soft laundry free of harmful chemicals. Our wool dryer balls are hypo-allergenic, making them completely safe for people with sensitive skin and for baby/children’s clothes. Plus, the wool does not rub off or unravel and there are no dyes or perfumes.

4. Naturally Non-Static
Our dryer balls break the static energy in your laundry naturally with the power of 100% wool! Dryer sheets, liquid softeners and dryer pods all reduce the static in your clothing using a harmful silicone. This chemical can result in skin irritation and allergic reactions. Fortunately, our 100% Wool Dryer Balls are naturally anti-static and free of irritants.

5. Fragrance-Free
Did you know that chemical poly-dryer sheets give off harmful chemical scents when not in use? Fragrances in dryer sheets and fabric softeners can create respiratory issues, especially asthma, or trigger migraines. 100% Wool Dryer Balls are naturally unscented. If you would like to add some fragrance, just add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to the dryer balls before putting them in the dryer.

6. Soft to the Touch
100% Wool Dryer Balls are super soft. And because they are made up of an all-natural material, you don't have to fret when your little one, or even your pet, gets a hold of them.

7. Long Lasting
While a box of 80 dryer sheets may last up to 20 weeks, 100% Wool Dryer Balls can last up to 4 years! That’s approximately 1500+ loads.

8. Eco-Friendly
When using dryer sheets, they need to be thrown away frequently, taking up space in landfills. By contrast, wool will break down naturally. Simply throw them into your compost when your 100% Wool Dryer Balls have reached the end of the line.

BONUS!
Did you know you could use wool as mulch in your garden? Just toss your old 100% Wool Dryer Balls in your garden bed! Wool can hold water, increases oxygen in the soil, acts as a slow release fertilizer, and repels slugs and snails.

Easter-Themed Egg Cozies {Free Printable PDF}

Bring some extra-cute cheer to your Easter breakfast this year with our Easter-Themed Egg Cozies! They look cute, are easy to make, and are useful in keeping your eggs warm while you finish getting ready for breakfast.

If you were like me, you're asking "what is an egg cozy?" Well, It's basically a "hat" or cover for a boiled egg to keep it warm. You may have also heard them called egg warmers or even just egg hats.

So, whether you call them boiled eggs or dippy eggs, eat them with toast soldiers or just plain toast, these egg cozies are just for you!

What You'll Need:
Craft Felt
Fabric scissors
Straight pins
Embroidery floss and needle
Small white pom-pom ball (optional)

Egg cozies measure approximately 4.3" wide, and 3.8" from top to bottom (excluding bunny ears and chick hair).

Here is the complete template for the Easter-Themed Egg Cozies.

1. Print out the Easter Theme Egg Cozies Template and cut out the shapes using the scissors. Trace the shapes onto the craft felt sheets in the colors you prefer (using chalk or a marker) and cut them out using the fabric scissors .

2. Once all the pieces are cut out of the felt, sew the inner ear pieces to the ear shape pieces for both the bunny and the lamb using some of the embroidery floss and the needle.

3. Take the bunny and lamb ears and sew the bottom edges into a crinkle to make a more 3D ear shape. Also do this for the wings of the chick.

4. Take one of the egg cozy pieces and sew or glue on your facial features. For this step, you’ll need to refer to the template for the facial features for each cozy. You can either use the leftover felt to cut the shapes and glue them on, or you can stitch the features on using a satin stitch. Here is a tutorial by Sublime Stitching for ‘How-To: Satin Stitch.

5. Next sew on the ears for the bunny and the lamb, and the wings for the chick, to the inner side of the other cozy piece where marked. For this step, refer back to the template to see where they should be sewn. The ears and wings should end up between each cozy piece.

6. Using the straight pins, pin the front and back of each cozy together and stitch both front and back of each shape together with the embroidery floss and needle, to make a completed shape. We also sewed the bottom for a finished look.

This craft is perfect for adding that extra flare to your Easter brunch with family or simply having your kids waking up to cute cozies on top of their eggs. Once they are finished, you can send them off to play with their new puppets.

DIY St. Patrick’s Day Shamrocks

Quick and easy to make, this St. Patrick’s Day Shamrock is a great way to decorate any space so that you’re ready for the festivities!

St. Patrick’s Day is just around the corner and we have a quick and easy craft to get you in the Shamrockin’ spirit!

These Shamrocks can be used as decorations for a St. Patrick’s Day themed party or just to brighten up any room. You can hang them using ribbon, attach them directly to any surface using some adhesive, make a key chain and much more! We are showing you how to make one size, but you can change the measurements below to make larger or smaller Shamrocks.

What You'll Need:
Stiff Felt Sheets - 12” x 12”
Ruler
Rotary cutter or fabric scissors
Hot glue gun and sticks
Ribbon (optional)

Instructions:
1. With your Stiff Felt Sheets, rotary blade and ruler, cut 4 strips measuring 1 inch wide by 12 inches long and 4 strips measuring 1 inch wide by 10 inches long. You should have a total of 8 strips. These strips will be the outside and inside of the Shamrock.

2. Take the 12-inch-long strips and fold them in half lengthwise to end up with 6-inch-long strips. Make sure to press down on the crease so that you will know where the middle is.

3. Stand the now 6-inch-long strips on their sides back-to-back, so that all the folded creased corners are facing each other in the center, like in our picture. Using the hot glue gun, glue the strips together approximately 2 inches from the corners, keeping the same shape. You can also add glue to the center if you do not want a gap showing.

4. Take the 10-inch-long strips and fold them in half lengthwise to end up with 5-inch-long strips. Make sure to press down on the crease so that you will know where the middle is. Using the hot glue gun, glue these 10-inch-long strips to the inside of each of the 12-inch-long strips. The corners of these 10-inch-long strips should line up with the corners of the 12-inch-long strips, and the hot glue should be about 2 inches from the corners.

5. Next, we will start transforming these strips into small hearts for the Shamrock shape. Start by forming a heart using the end of one of the 10-inch-long inner strips and glue it using the hot glue. Then glue the inner portion of the top of each heart to the corner. Repeat with the remaining 10-inch-long strips .

6. Repeat the previous step for the 12-inch-long strips. Instead of gluing the inner portion of the top of each heart to the corners, you will glue the inner portion of the top of each heart to the top of the smaller heart. And there you have it, your own Shamrock decoration!

Don’t be afraid to get creative! You can even use multiple shades of green or different colors to make your Shamrock stand out from the rest.
