The Vessel Project 2012 - Part 1 of 3

The Felt Store is pleased to present the 2012 Vessel project winners of the graduating Dec 404 Interior Decorating Class at the Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning. The Vessel project is run by professor Susan Schwartz and encourages students to explore the possibilities of felt in new and creative ways. The requirements of the course were to create a type of vessel – a hollow utensil or container - out of felt provided by The Felt Store. The projects were judged by the students and we will be showcasing the winners and a few honourable mentions in the upcoming weeks. Thank you to all of those involved in the making of this project and congratulations to Susan Schwartz and her students for their hard work and creative inspiration!

Anne Barros, “Origami Purse”
1st Place Winner DEC 404.01

The origami purse is a fantastic example of the ingenuity of felt. Anne has taken the material and formed it into a sculptural purse that can be dressed up or worn everyday. Anne worked with the felt to form a purse that is both functional and beautiful. The Origami Purse features several pockets and a cross body strap.

Michelle Au, “ Multi Vintage Bag”
1st Place Winner Dec 404.02

The Multi Vintage Bag is not only beautiful, it is also multi-functional by combining bag and backpack into one. Most multi-functional bags tend to only have one strap, but the Multi Vintage Bag is set apart by its’ intricate woven design and use of two straps. The straps can easily be switched from each side, transforming it from a reusable grocery bag to a comfortable backpack. It also includes a side pocket for carrying a water bottle.

1st Place Winner DEC 404.03

The combination of earth colours and flower detailing gives this laptop case a natural elegance. It comes with detachable straps that make it easy to transport or slip inside a backpack. The vessel opens to twin pockets that are designed to fit up to two standard sized laptops and are held in place by green earth toned felt straps. The pockets are lined with white overcast stitching, giving the bag extra durability and a nice finishing look.
